I can honestly say I not only fell completely off the healthy lifestyle wagon, but gleefully jumped off, head first, and smashed into a raging torrent of calorie filled excess.
The holiday season has come and gone. During the holidays I, like many others, was less than prudent in my food choices. But, like so many others, I did so with every intention of getting right back into the swing of things. The year is winding down I’ve been thinking about the past eight months. So far, I’ve lost almost 100 lbs because I didn’t want to have to pay extra for my flight when my BFF and I took our Hawaii trip. The trip may have been postponed, but it was the catalyst to behind my determination to lose weight. I wanted to share some of the things I’ve learned so far that have helped me.
There is a level in hell called exercise, and nothing you say can convince me otherwise. As part of my new healthy lifestyle adding exercise has been the hardest. Still, I’ve been walking more as part of my “five minutes of exercise a day” routine, which of course, lasts longer than five minutes, but I also planned on incorporating yoga into the mix. Just a bit of a notice: This post is really short.
I’ve been working on my minuscule five-minute exercise time goal I’d mentioned in my From FAT to Fit: Emily’s Journey post. Correction—I’ve been working on my minuscule five-minute exercise time goal over the weekend. Weekdays, those I still have to work on. But because I’m still slacking I figured I’d just make it up over the weekend.
In eight months I have lost a significant amount of weight. My known heaviest was 289 lbs, but these changes have led to my current weight of 197 lbs, a change of almost 100 lbs. Now I’ve had to come up against my biggest challenge thus far. Exercise.
For me, the endorphins released after a good solid workout, that runner’s high everyone is always talking about…
My eating…my overeating was going to come to an end. After weeks of drinking more water than I’d care to think about I was about to limit my food intake.
Food. I LOVE food. I wouldn’t have gotten to the size I was unless I loved food. However, the bigger I became I often felt guilty after eating, especially when my meal consisted of a large sized burger, fries, and soda or after my fourth or fifth trip through a buffet line. But my time had arrived. My eating…my overeating was going to come to an end. After weeks of drinking more water than I’d care to think about I was about to limit my food intake.
On June 29th of this year, I joined….rejoined My Fitness Pal, with a starting weight of 265 lbs, I joined…rejoined My Fitness Pal. (www.myfitnesspal.com)
After updating my information I started with a daily calorie goal of 1,500. Utilizing My Fitness Pal to track my food intake was the first step. I stepped out of my introverted comfort zone and joined groups and added friends, building the online support I would need to succeed in my weight loss goal.
