Emily’s Journey: Falling Off the Wagon

I can honestly say I not only fell completely off the healthy lifestyle wagon, but gleefully jumped off, head first, and smashed into a raging torrent of calorie filled excess.

The holiday season has come and gone.  During the holidays I, like many others, was less than prudent in my food choices.  But, like so many others, I did so with every intention of getting right back into the swing of things.  However, my holiday “break” was so bad I haven’t weighed myself since shortly after returning home from the Christmas holiday.  Continue reading “Emily’s Journey: Falling Off the Wagon”

Emily’s Journey: My End of Year Check-In

The year is winding down I’ve been thinking about the past eight months.  So far, I’ve lost almost 100 lbs because I didn’t want to have to pay extra for my flight when my BFF and I took our Hawaii trip.  The trip may have been postponed, but it was the catalyst to behind my determination to lose weight.  I wanted to share some of the things I’ve learned so far that have helped me.

Emily’s Journey: Self-Challenge

There is a level in hell called exercise, and nothing you say can convince me otherwise.  As part of my new healthy lifestyle adding exercise has been the hardest.  Still, I’ve been walking more as part of my “five minutes of exercise a day” routine, which of course, lasts longer than five minutes, but I also planned on incorporating yoga into the mix.  However, shocker alert:  I’m lazy and kept procrastinating. From FAT to fit: Life Never Goes as Planned

Just a bit of a notice:  This post is really short.

I’ve been working on my minuscule five-minute exercise time goal I’d mentioned in my From FAT to Fit: Emily’s Journey post.  Correction—I’ve been working on my minuscule five-minute exercise time goal over the weekend.  Weekdays, those I still have to work on.  But because I’m still slacking I figured I’d just make it up over the weekend.

From FAT to Fit: Emily’s Journey

My journey towards a healthier lifestyle has so far led me to increase my water intake daily and to dramatically decrease my daily calorie intake.  (You can read about it:  HERE–A Work in Progress  HERE–The Time is Now And HERE–The Food is Changin’)

In eight months I have lost a significant amount of weight.  My known heaviest was 289 lbs, but these changes have led to my current weight of 197 lbs, a change of almost 100 lbs.  Now I’ve had to come up against my biggest challenge thus far.  Exercise.

For me, the endorphins released after a good solid workout, that runner’s high everyone is always talking about…

Turkey Sausage and Veggie Bake

Mysfam Cottage Turkey Sausage and Veggie Bake

It’s Veggie Time

Ingredients:

1 package of Smoked Turkey Sausage

1 medium Sweet Potato

1 Carrot

1 Zucchini

1 Red Bell Pepper

3 baby Red Potatoes

1 Yellow Squash

4 oz. Baby Portabella Mushrooms

1 1/2 cup of broccoli florets

2 TBSP Olive oil

Salt and pepper

1/8 tsp Garlic Powder (optional)

¼ tsp Italian Seasoning (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Wash all the vegetables.  Peel the carrots and sweet potatoes.  Core and seed the red bell pepper. Cut all of the vegetables and turkey sausage into ½ inch to 1 inch pieces and coat in the olive oil. Spread onto baking sheet and season to taste with salt, pepper and other optional seasonings.  Cook for 30 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Serve hot with rice or noodles of your choice.

If you freeze this recipe, thaw in the refrigerator over night and reheat in the microwave for 3 to 5 minutes on high, or until hot, stirring halfway through.

*Cooking hint—place the broccoli, onion, and any veggies you prefer to be a bit softer on bottom of the bake and the mushrooms and sausage on top.  The sausage flavors the bake wonderfully, which is why we don’t really use any additional seasoning most of the time.

This makes four (4) servings with 328 calories per serving.

From FAT to fit: The Food is Changin’

My eating…my overeating was going to come to an end.  After weeks of drinking more water than I’d care to think about I was about to limit my food intake.

Food.  I LOVE food.  I wouldn’t have gotten to the size I was unless I loved food.  However, the bigger I became I often felt guilty after eating, especially when my meal consisted of a large sized burger, fries, and soda or after my fourth or fifth trip through a buffet line.  But my time had arrived.  My eating…my overeating was going to come to an end.  After weeks of drinking more water than I’d care to think about I was about to limit my food intake.

On June 29th of this year, I joined….rejoined My Fitness Pal, with a starting weight of 265 lbs, I joined…rejoined My Fitness Pal.  (www.myfitnesspal.com)

June 2017

After updating my information I started with a daily calorie goal of 1,500.  Utilizing My Fitness Pal to track my food intake was the first step.  I stepped out of my introverted comfort zone and joined groups and added friends, building the online support I would need to succeed in my weight loss goal.

From FAT to fit: The Time is NOW!

I knew from past, personal experience trying to make a lot of changes at once would led to failure, so I researched how to lose weight. Most would say, well, that’s easy. Don’t eat bad-for-you foods. Exercise. Yeeeaaaahhhh, no. Been there, tried that, got the t-shirt I’m too fat to wear in the back of my closet…

The time is now. My time. I’d found my trigger. My goal. My carrot at the end of the stick. A vacation to Hawaii. I knew from past, personal experience trying to make a lot of changes at once would lead to failure, so I researched how to lose weight. Most would say, well, that’s easy. Don’t eat bad-for-you foods. Exercise. Yeeeaaaahhhh, no. Been there, tried that, got the t-shirt I’m too fat to wear in the back of my closet…

After all of my researching, I knew I had to incorporate three things into my life. More water, exercise, and less food. Using my past failures as a guide, Now is the time. My time. I’d found my trigger. My goal. My carrot at the end of the stick. A vacation to Hawaii. I knew from personal experience that trying to do everything at once usually led to failure, so I researched how to lose weight. Most would say, well, that’s easy. Don’t eat bad foods. Exercise. Yeeeaaaahhhh, no. Been there, tried that, got the t-shirt I’m too fat to wear in the back of my closet…
